About the Role:
This role is critical in supporting the success and sustainability of commercial seed production by managing the agronomic aspects of parent seed increase, maintenance, and supply. This role will also be responsible for ensuring genetic purity, optimal yield, and high-quality seed through scientifically sound crop production practices.
- Oversee and advise on land preparation, planting dates, and agronomic practices to ensure optimal crop establishment.
- Develop and implement integrated crop management plans, including fertility, irrigation, weed, pest, and disease management.
- Conduct regular field inspections to monitor crop development, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with practical infield crop management processes
- Document field practices and maintain detailed records to ensure traceability and compliance with internal and regulatory standards
- Design and execute rogueing protocols to remove off-types, volunteer plants, and other contaminants.
- Collect and analyse field and laboratory data to verify genetic purity and seed health throughout the production process.
- Provide technical oversight for harvest timing, methods, and equipment selection to maximize yield and quality.
- Ensure post-harvest handling, drying, and storage protocols safeguard seed viability, purity, and quality.
- Coordinate sampling and testing for quality assurance, including germination / purity assessments.
- Serve as a technical resource for growers, production staff, and industry partners regarding parent seed production best practices.
- Maintain accurate field records, including planting dates, seed lot information, isolation distances, and crop observations.
About You:
A successful candidate in this role will have the following education, skills, experience and personal attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agronomy, Plant Science, Crop Science, Horticulture, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in seed production, agronomy, or crop management; experience with parent seed or hybrid seed production strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of crop genetics, plant breeding, and seed multiplication principles.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to production sites as required
- Chem Cert Accreditation or willingness to obtain
- HR Licence preferred or willing to obtain
- Experience with field trial implementation, data collection, and analysis.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing seed production and certification.
- Strong digital literacy across modern agronomic tools
- Experience in operating heavy machinery and farm equipment including set up
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
