Job Objective;
To provide full supervision of the plant health of palm trees, protect them from insect and fungal threats, and ensure the production of high‑quality, food‑safe dates by implementing integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and effective preventive and curative control programs.
Reports To: Pest Control Unit Head
Duties and Responsibilities;
- Comply with ADAFSA’s policies and procedures and Applied Research & Capability Building Division’s strategy.
- Develop and implement annual pest control plans (preventive and curative) based on agricultural seasons and pest life cycles.
- Set intervention priorities according to infestation levels and risk assessments.
- Identify the required pesticides for each case.
- Calculate accurate dosages and supervise spraying, injection, or dusting operations.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures during pesticide handling.
- Activate and monitor pheromone traps.
- Supervise biological control programs.
- Oversee preventive agricultural practices such as pruning, removing infected tissues, and improving ventilation.
- Ensure compliance with pesticide pre-harvest intervals (PHI).
- Guarantee that dates are free from chemical residues before harvesting.
- Supervise pesticide storage facilities and spraying equipment.
- Ensure proper storage according to environmental and safety standards.
- Monitor stock levels and submit procurement requests when needed.
- Prepare periodic reports detailing infestation rates, treatment outcomes, and program effectiveness.
- Provide recommendations for improving productivity and reducing future risks.
- Strong understanding of modern pesticides and application technologies.
- Proficiency in hydraulic injection methods.
- Ability to use acoustic detection devices for internal infestations.
Qualifications;
PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Plant Protection, Entomology, Plant Biology, Agricultural Sciences or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of hands‑on experience dealing with palm pests.
Experience in the Gulf region or North Africa is preferred.
Advanced proficiency in Arabic and English languages (both written and spoken).
